Hi, my Name is Carolina Weyh and I’m a postdoctoral researcher in the fields of Music Education and Digital Education and Schooling. My research focuses on diversity-related issues in music education (particularly in the field of culturally reflective music education), discourse research in music education, and AI in (music) education.
Currently I’m working on the RECOMPOSE research project (Recomposing the Blackbox – Critical Education through AI-Powered Music Generation) where we investigate how a special AI-supported platform for music production can promote critical AI skills among students and teachers. The project focuses both on demystifying the mechanisms and highlighting the social impact of AI technologies.
After completing University (music education, history education; University of Kassel), I taught at a vocational and a general secondary school and finally completed my preparatory service in Hessen at the Kassel Teacher Training College. Working as a research assistant and lecturer (University of Osnabrück), where I focused on topics related to diversity (anti-racist music education, gender sensitivity, and participation in music education), deepened my interest in diversity-related issues in music education. In the spring of 2025, I completed my doctoral studies with a dissertation entitled Reflecting on Constructions of „the Other“. Discourse analysis of the German-language academic discourse in music education on „the other“ at the Institute for Musicology and Music Education at the University of Osnabrück.
My experience as a percussionist, keyboardist, and workshop leader in school and extracurricular projects ultimately contributes to my interest in combining music education research and school practice.
